Simple Spray Painted Pumpkins

As the season of Fall is ushered in each year with pumpkin spice everything, changing leaves and dropping temps, almost everyone looks forward to a favorite Fall activity- pumpkin decorating!

If you’re crunched for time this year or don’t want to deal with the mess of pumpkin guts covering your hands and floors, then jump on a big trend we’re seeing for this year: spray painted pumpkins.

Your imagination is really the only limit here. Spray paint comes in a variety of colors and finishes, so finding one that suits your needs and style is quite easy.

To spray paint your pumpkin, you’ll need:

  • Your favorite size and style pumpkin(s)
  • Your favorite color(s) of spray paint
  • Old piece of wood or plastic to spray your pumpkin on (avoid using new paper as it tends to stick to the pumpkin)
  • Gloves

To start, put on your gloves to keep your hands clean of spray paint. Then, start spraying your pumpkin from the bottom and work your way up to the top. Try to get as even of a spray as possible and let them sit to dry for about an hour.

From here, you can either leave them a solid color (which can be beautiful on it’s own, especially with an assortment of colors), or you can use stencils to spray paint sayings or characters on the larger pumpkins.

To use a stencil to spray paint your pumpkin, look for inspiration on Pinterest. There are a number of stencils you can print, cut out and tape to your pumpkin to spray paint on top of your base coat.

Some ideas for your spray painted pumpkins:

  • If you have a more cone-shaped pumpkin, spray paint them to look like candy corn by using white and yellow spray paint and leaving an orange layer visible.
  • Metallics are hot right now. Don’t be afraid to spray paint some gold pumpkins for a chic look for your table’s centerpiece or front step.
